Located just south of Downtown Miami is the financial district and entertainment hot spot known as Brickell. It is easily one of the fastest growing and most desirable neighborhoods in the area, with a slew of 5 star hotels, thousands of luxury condominiums, and Mary Brickell Village, the 200,000 square-foot retail and entertainment center, drawing thousands to work and play in this community every day. Next year, the popular neighborhood is expected to welcome the Brickell CityCentre, a 5.4 million square-foot urban shopping and mixed-use development, that is sure to keep the community buzzing. The Metromover provides convenient access to the plethora of luxury shops, restaurants, hotels, department stores, office towers, and condominiums in Brickell, making it easy to understand the popularity of this thriving area.

The community currently known as Brickell was originally used as an Indian trading post by Miami pioneers, William and Mary Brickell. In the early 1900s, several impressive estates were built along Brickell Avenue, known as Millionaire’s Row, but by the 1970s, the mansions were replaced by high rise condominiums and office towers. In the ‘80s, the Brickell skyline became very well known through the wildly popular television series, Miami Vice, and is still known for the stunning architecture depicted in the show. Today, the area has grown to be one of the largest financial districts in the United States, and has one of the fastest growing residential populations. In 2010, the population was estimated to be approximately 31,000 in an area just under one-square-mile.

Referred to as the “Manhattan of the South,” Brickell not only has the largest concentration of international banks in the US, but is also home to most of Florida’s foreign  consulates, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, France, Great Britain, Japan, and Peru. In recent years, the financial district has grown into a luxurious residential location as well. Several projects are well underway and sales of pre-construction properties are booming. Some of the exciting residential towers that are coming to the area include Brickell City Centre, Brickell Heights, Echo Brickell, and 1010 Brickell. With top-notch entertainment, dining, shopping, business, cultural, and arts opportunities, Brickell is truly at the heart of all that Miami has to offer.
